Choosing the correct large rabbit cage isn’t all about picking the biggest one out of them all. There are some core and essential things to understand with rabbit cages in general and specifically like price, size according to rabbit size, and a lot more so make sure you continue reading this buying guide for all that and more.

Defining Large – What’s considered large for one rabbit might not be large for another. Rabbits differ in size between breeds so a rabbit like a flemish giant is going to need an extra-large cage to even be close to the minimal cage requirements for that specific breed. Cage Definition – There are two types of rabbit enclosures that we define. These are rabbit cages and hutches. Hutches are typically made as wooden rabbit hutches and have some wire bits. Their use is more commonly for outdoor settings. Cages, on the other hand, are primarily made with wire and commonly enough plastic.

Small Rabbit Large – A small rabbit is defined as one that weighs below 8 lbs. These rabbits, generally, will do well in a cage that’s at least 24 inches long and 30 inches wide. You do have to take into account cage height and whether or not the cage has additional levels.

Big Rabbit Large – Just like with small rabbit cages, you have to take into account cage height and length and width of additional levels to determine if it’s large enough for our large rabbit. They are defined as rabbits that weigh over 8 lbs and a typically large enough cage for them would be at least 30 inches long and 36 inches wide.

Price Points – Cages are surprisingly cheap. Of course, there are some exceptions to that rule but even so, at most you’ll be paying around 150 dollars for one and some even go as low as to have a price point in two-digit numbers. Indoor And Outdoor Things – With outdoor cages, you have to focus on building materials and finishes. Finishes are number one since they are the main actor in protecting the metal from rust and corrosion.
