The 10 Best Dog Health Care Apps On Google Play

In the last decade or more, modern technology has brought people closer. No wonder that the time has come for technology to help us get to know our pets better as well. If you are a pet owner and an app-lover, then you are probably open to trying some of the apps that help people take better care of their pets.

I am a new dog owner and I agree that handling everything can sometimes be tricky. This is why I have decided to test the 10 best apps that help dog owners keep track of their dog’s health. I used Android and downloaded the apps from Google Play. Check out my thoughts and let me know your opinions and suggestions in the comments!

Dog Health

General Details

The Dog Health is the app that allows you to keep track of your dog’s life, history, vet visits, and medication. Create your dog’s profile by uploading his photo and storing his date of birth, name, chip number, height, weight, and other personal data. Setting up the profile is easy and it takes only a couple of minutes. What I liked most about this app is the fact that it is very simple to use. The home screen is your dog’s profile. On the left, you will find a menu bar with the options of adding a vet clinic or finding the information about the clinic you have already added. Other than that, there are local and online backup options and the possibility of removing your dog’s profile. By clicking on the setting option, you can change weight and length units.

the dog health app

On your dog’s profile, you can create memos for vet visits, vaccination, etc. Also, the app shows your dog’s medical records about vaccination, antiparasitics, visits, surgeries, and medicines. You can add other notes as well. At the top right corner, there is the option of adding another dog profile. Most of the features are free to use. However, if you want to add another dog profile, you will need to pay for the pro version. All in all, the app runs smoothly. The interface is quite basic, but your dog’s photo makes it look more attractive.

Special Feature

Dog Health app has the option of finding the closest veterinarian in your area and shows you their details.

Pros: You don’t have to subscribe and pay a monthly fee to use almost all features.

Cons: If you want to manage multiple dogs, you will have to pay for the pro version. Also, if you want to share your dog’s information with another user, this isn’t the app for you.

Launch Year: 2013

Downloads: more than 100,000

Google Play Rating: 3.7/5

Petovly Rating: 6.5/10

Final Verdict

In my opinion, the app contains all the basic features that a pet owner requires. However, I would like the app to have the possibility of sharing the data with another family member because there are two of us that take care of our dog. So, in my case, this is the reason for which I wouldn’t use it.

Petable

General Details

Once you download the Petable app and sign up, you immediately start creating your dog’s profile. The app will walk you through the process. Select your country, add a pet and enter his details: name, date of birth, breed, gender, etc. Petable will use your location to show the vet clinics in the area. If the app finds your clinic, connect with them through it. The app will then show you the clinic’s phone number, email, and address. Once you set all that, you can log your pet’s photo, weight, diet, etc. Click on Pets option to edit the profile or create your dog’s health plan. Let the app remind you when he or she should take a deworming pill or tick prevention. Also, you can keep track of your dog’s daily calorie intake which is extremely important if your dog struggles with an illness or problems with weight loss.

petable app

What I really liked is the option of marking possible illnesses or allergies. Once you mark your dog’s condition, the app gives you advice on what to do to make your dog feel better. For example, if your dog has heart disease, the app tells you to track your dog’s weight, food, and water intake. You can also upload lab test dates. Unlike the previous app, this one allows you to create multiple pet profiles for free. Moreover, the reminders are integrated with your phone’s calendar. Lastly, the app can be shared and edited together with another user which I consider a big plus!

Special Feature

The Petable app gives you special points every time you mark an event as done. Once you collect enough points, you can redeem them and turn them into meals for animals in shelters.

Pros: This is a free app. It is created by a team of veterinarians and in the newsfeed, you can read their latest blog posts about cats and dogs.

Cons: Your pet can only be associated with one vet and you cannot add a new veterinarian clinic yourself. It has to be on the app’s list already.

Launch Year: 2014

Downloads: more than 10,000

Google Play Rating: 4.1/5

Petovly Rating: 9/10

Final Verdict

I really liked this app because it includes the feature of using it together with another user, which is very important to me. A feature that could be very important to many users is tracking calorie intake. Many dogs have weight problems or illnesses that need to be monitored in detail. The newsfeed is full of informative posts about cats and dogs so you can spend time educating yourself as well. All in all, I find this app very useful and I am sure I will continue using it.

11Pets

General Details

The 11Pets is an app that is created by animal lovers and enthusiasts.  Also, this is not only a pet-owner app but it is also created for groomers and shelters because it allows you to create a profile of as many pets as you want. Select the version that best fits you and set up the accounts. The free version will allow you to upload your pets’ documents such as passport and medical book. The interface is user-friendly and you can easily navigate between numerous features. For example, under the My Pets option, you will see the list of every pet profile you have created. Then, there other options such as scheduling appointments or searching for the nearest vet clinic in your area.

11pets app

What makes this app special is the fact that it includes over 50 features. Some of the best ones are supplies management and electronic grooming appointments. However, for the moment you will only find groomers from several countries in the world. In the end, if you pay for the pro version, the app will also give you the possibility of synchronizing the data with your smartphone’s calendar and track expenses. The menu bar includes options of inviting your friends, sending error reports, and providing feedback. Under settings, you can choose language, weight, heigh, and temperature units, time and date format, and more.

Special Feature

The pro version includes the feature of tracking your dog’s behavior. You can easily set values for different characteristics and track the timeline. This feature helps you see if your pet has progressed with time.

Pros: Share your pet’s details with your vet, pet sitter, or family member. Choose for how long you want to share the information. Store the data in the cloud.

Cons: The grooming electronic appointments cannot yet be scheduled worldwide. This feature is limited to a few countries only.

Launch Year: 2015

Downloads: more than 100,000

Google Play Rating: 4.5/5

Petovly Rating: 8/10

Final Verdict

I love that this app offers users the possibility of choosing between the pet owner, groomer, or shelter care version. For instance, if you come from a pet shelter, you will find this app extremely useful because you can add an unlimited number of pets and a photo gallery. By uploading photos and adding notes, you can easily track a pet’s progress, set reminders for food, medication, and more.

myPets

General Details

The myPets app will help you keep track not only of your dog’s health but also activities and costs related to your furry friend. Sign up and create your dog’s profile easily just like with other apps. Enter your dog’s name, date of birth, chip number, and add other notes if necessary. You can make a list of multiple pets and choose between different animals (bird, cat, cow, dog, fish, hamster, horse, pig, rabbit, or sheep). If other than a dog, you have a pet that is not on the app’s list, simply click on the ”add new” option. The list of your pets will appear on the app’s home screen. Simply click on the profile of the pet you want to check out or edit.

my pets app

The free version allows you to create up to four pet profiles. Access the menu bar if you want to subscribe and pay for the pro version. Other than that, the menu bar has the option of adding important contacts such as your favorite pet store, a kennel, a vet, and others. Under Preferences, you have the option of saving the data in the cloud and personalizing the app. For example, select the currency symbol or let the app show you reminders for the next day, week, month, or year.

Special Feature

You can easily print out all of your pet’s records and take them to your vet or show them to your pet sitter.

Pros: You can create a photo album and cost summary chart of each of your pets.

Cons: I didn’t like the home screen’s design as much, but it is easy to navigate through it. Also, you cannot add more than 4 pets or use the cloud storage if you are not subscribed.

Launched in: 2015

Downloads: more than 10,000

Petovly Rating: 7/10

Google Play Rating: 4/5

Final Verdict

All in all, the myPets app is not complicated to use and the dog profiles can be set quickly. What I liked are the features of tracking costs related to your pets. If you subscribe to the app, you can save all the data to the cloud which is just fine. Although the app is fast and has almost all the features you need, I personally wouldn’t use it because I have five pets and I would like to use an app that doesn’t require a subscription. I rated the app 7/10 because of the design. It does not look very modern.

VitusVet

General Details

The VitusVet app is another great platform that allows you to share your dog’s details with your vet automatically if your vet is part of the app as well. The app asks you to sign up with Facebook, Google, or Email account. After signing up, you create your dog’s profile by entering his name, gender, veterinarian, pet owner, and other data. On the home screen, you will see the complete list of your pets and other users that you share the app with. By accessing your dog’s profile, you can easily set daily, weekly, or monthly reminders, add notes and your dog’s pictures. Next to the home screen, there is an appointment icon that allows you to make an online appointment at your vet clinic and next you to, you’ll find a refill icon.

vitusvet app

The menu bar allows you to invite family members and pet sitters. Other than that, you can request a medical record from your vet clinic (if they are part of the VitusVet network). I find this feature very useful because you then have access to your dog’s health status. Moreover, under the Notification option, you can decide how you want to get notified – by email, SMS, or push notifications. Lastly, you can sign out of the app and sign back in very fast.

Special Feature

If your pet’s vet clinic partners with the app, you can request online appointments or medication refills.

Pros: If your vet is partnered with the VitusVet, the app makes communication with your vet easy and fast. Also, you will have quick access to your dog’s medical history.

Cons: If you edit a once-saved record from the past, it will appear at the top. This means that the records are not organized by the vet visit date. So, if you edit a record from a year ago, it will appear on the top.

Launch Year: 2015

Downloads: more than 100,000

Google Play Rating: 4.7/5

Petovly Rating: 8/10

Final Verdict

If you are lucky and your vet is a part of the VitusVet network, you will get to make online appointments and refills which I think is pretty cool! Also, the app is free so you can use all the features without having to subscribe. There is a feature named Special offers that directs you to the VitusVet website. Over there, you can check out the offers for the app users and get special discounts on dog collars, cat litter, pillows, and more products. In my opinion, the idea is pretty good, the app is convenient and it runs without problems. I would definitely use and recommend it.

RVC Pet Diabetes App

General Details

This is a great app for owners whose pet has diabetes. The app was created by Dr. Stijn Niessen, a pet diabetes expert from the Royal Veterinary College of the University of London. Pets who have diabetes can live a long and quality life if you take of them properly. But for some owners, diabetes management can be difficult. Some of the reasons why this app was designed are to help pet owners with medical management and develop better treatment options for the future. Just like most apps, the RVC Pet Diabetes app is easy to use and allows you to share your dog’s data with your veterinarian.

rvc pet diabetes app

To create a profile, choose blood glucose, weight, and height units. Log in clinical signs like appetite, changes in urination, thirst, urine and blood sugar values, etc. Calculate the amount of food your pet needs and keep track of your dog’s daily calorie intake. Once you’ve set all that, you are ready to use the app. The home screen has nine icons. The icon Diabetes emergencies will give you advice on how to act if your pet is not feeling well. Under the My pet icon, you get to create or edit a profile. Then, the Medication icon will allow you to add medication your dog is using and set reminders. Also, there is a Diabetes log feature that helps you keep track of your dog’s behavior – weight gain/loss, increased appetite, drinking or urination, etc.

Special Feature

Take a survey and help the RVC to try to understand why diabetes happens and how to treat it properly. Also, the app includes a special tool that calculates and monitors the quality of your dog’s life.

Pros: Save emergency contacts of your dog veterinarian, internist, diabetes specialist, etc. Set medication and insulin injection reminders.

Cons: The app is created for cats and dogs only. If other than a dog, you want to monitor another pet’s health, then this app will not be the right one for you.

Launch Year: 2016

Downloads: more than 5000

Google Play Rating: 3.7/5

Petovly Rating: 7.5/10

Final Verdict

I think that an app that is specifically made for dogs and cats with diabetes is a great idea. Many pet owners struggle with their pet’s health management and an app like this can improve their pet’s life significantly. One can immediately note that the app was created by an experienced veterinarian. However, I think that the option of tracking another pet should be added. I am sure there are other pet owners who would love to use an app like this.

DogLog

General Details

Once you sign up, the app asks you whether you want to join an existing Pack or form a new one. A Pack is the community of your pet and users of the app who take care of him or her. You can generate the invite code and send it to people you want to join the Pack. The home screen shows you your pet’s profile and the options of creating a new Pack or join an existing one. If you swipe to the left, another pet profile will appear. Simply click on the picture of the pet’s profile you want to access. The icon in the middle allows you to log in the events such as diet, outdoors, and care. The two icons on the left will show you the information about your pet, and the two ones on the right allow you to set reminders and change settings.

doglog app

The app will help both you and other users to track your dog’s health, log activities, and medication. If you use this app with other users, it will notify you whenever someone logs new activities. If you subscribe, you can add additional dogs per Pack (more than 3), export the data, and upgrade all the existing users as well, which I consider very convenient. Also, there is the feature of the digital health clinic. It is available for U.S. residents only and allows you to get in contact with professionals 24/7.

Special Feature

The Statistics page will show you insights into your dog’s life. Export the statistics and show it to your vet.

Pros: The app can be used by pet sitters as well who can keep track of your dog’s activities while you are away so you will always know how your dog is doing. If the activity is not on the app’s list, you can add a new one easily.

Cons: If you want to check out the old events, you will have to scroll down to get to them. Also, it is a shame that only U.S. residents can access the digital health clinic.

Launch Year: 2017

Downloads: more than 10,000

Google Play Rating: 3.9/5

Petovly Rating: 7.5/10

Final Verdict

I think that the concept of Packs is pretty interesting. You can create a small community and ask other users to join your dog’s Pack after which you can log in activities, add photos, and edit the profile together. Also, I liked the fact that you can create your plan and have 24/7 access to a digital health clinic. Not everyone has the possibility to visit their vet immediately if they suspect something is wrong with their pet. However, this option is not available worldwide and this is why I lowered my rating.

Pet’s Care&Health

General Details

This app includes almost all of the basic features that we have already seen in other apps. I wouldn’t say this is bad, though. On the contrary, the Pet’s Care&Health app is certainly one of the easiest to use. Also, the interface is simple and nice. The home screen appears as your pet’s profile. There is a drop-down menu available at the top so you can switch to another pet’s profile easily. You can edit profiles as well. This option is available at the top right corner. I created my dog’s and cat’s profiles in just a couple of minutes. To add an animal, click on the add icon and enter all the required details and a photo.

pets care and health app

You can add multiple pets at the same time and log in their medical records, notes, and set reminders. Moreover, you can create a photo album of each pet. This way you can watch your pet grow or monitor changes in his or her appearance. All the data is saved to your cloud, so you don’t have to worry that you will lose them if you switch to another smartphone. In the menu bar, you can search for the nearest vets and pet shops, check out the gallery and notes, set reminders, and log out of the app if necessary.

Special Feature

Find veterinarian clinics and pet shops in your area, no matter where you are from. Once you click on the clinic or pet shop you want to visit, the app will direct you to Google maps.

Pros: Simple, user-friendly, and nice-looking. A great app with all the basic features that every pet owner needs. It is free to use.

Cons: Unfortunately, although I like this app very much, you cannot share the data with another user. However, it is still one of my favorites and I think I will continue using it.

Launch Year: 2018

Downloads: more than 1000

Google Play Rating: 4.3/5

Petovly Rating: 8.5/10

Final Verdict

This app is almost perfect for me. I like the interface and the fact that you can create a profile in a minute. Also, it has a great option of finding the nearest vet clinics in your area, no matter where you are from. Other than that, you can create multiple pet profiles and switch from one another easily. I am sorry that I cannot share my pet’s details with another user. However, if you don’t consider this feature a must, this app could be great for you!

First Aide For Pets

General Details

The difference between this and other apps on the list is the fact that this is not an app to keep track of your pet’s health. However, it is incredibly useful and full of advice that will help you understand what to do if your pet starts acting differently. Many pet owners are not in a situation to visit their vet immediately. This is when an app like this helps a lot. There are multiple pieces of advice for cats, dogs, hamsters, and birds included. Also, the creator has included cute and colorful illustrations.

first aide app

The app is divided into categories. In the menu bar and under chapters, you can find advice on bee or wasp sting, broken bones, choking, constipation, heatstroke, poisons, vomiting, and many more. By clicking on a category, a chapter with advice opens. Swipe to the left and read more information about a selected category. Keep in mind that the app is not meant to replace your vet’s advice. If an emergency happens, contact the vet immediately.

Special Feature

The First Aide For Pets app is created by a veterinarian with over 45 years of experience. The app functions like a digital book. It is easy to use and simple to understand.

Pros: The app includes advice on a very large variety of subjects. It is extremely useful and it has already helped numerous pet owners.

Cons: This is an exclusively informative app. You cannot track your pet’s behavior or health status like in other apps. Also, not every category has been covered.

Launch Year: 2018

Downloads: more than 1000

Google Play Rating: 4.1/5

Petovly Rating: 9/10

Final Verdict

In my opinion, the app is very informative and interesting. It is simple to read and understand. I would consider every user to read the chapters even if they don’t have problems with their pet’s health. It could help you in the future. I know this is not a health tracking app, but I think it would be very helpful if there was the option of marking the symptoms your dog (or another pet) experienced before you forget.

Pet Care: Pet Health News&Tips

General Details

Lastly, this app is similar to the previous one which means it is here to provide you with information about your pet’s health. The main difference between these two apps is the fact that the previous one functioned as a digital book, while this one includes multiple news and blog posts that provide you with the main information about your pet’s health and wellness. If there is a certain subject that interests you, search for an article by the keyword.

pet care news app

The home screen consists of a list of live or popular articles. Above the list, you can search for a certain article. At the top right corner, you can mute notifications and access the menu bar to get to saved articles and settings. Once you click on an article that you want to read, you can share it with your friends or add it to your bookmarks. The newest update allows you to translate the article via Google translate to a language of your choice as well. If you like to read such articles, set notification alerts.

Special Feature

The app collects the latest news from different sources. News and posts are updated daily so you can read interesting articles every day. You can translate them via Google translate.

Pros: Save articles that you liked under favorites and access them again without having to search for them all over again.

Cons: The app is mostly about dogs so if you have a cat or another pet as well, you won’t find much information in this app.

Launch Year: 2016

Downloads: more than 5000

Google Play Rat./ing: 4.7/5

Petovly Rating: 8.5/10

Final Verdict

I consider this app very interesting. It collects news and articles from sources that write about pets so you don’t have to search for them yourself. I think every pet owner could benefit from this app and learn a lot from the articles. The app is simple to use. It is both fun and informative and it keeps pet owners updated. I will certainly keep on using it!

Conclusion

In my opinion, most of the listed apps are very useful. However, I think that one should know which features are most important to them and try to find an app that has it all. For example, I focused on finding an app that allows me to set reminders, add multiple pets, and share it with another user. After testing all these apps, I concluded that Petable was the best app for me and my family. Also, I liked the two last apps as well because thanks to them, I get to learn more about dogs’ and cats’ health. I will surely continue to use the three of them. Hopefully, I have helped you find an ideal app for you and your dog as well!
